Things I Have To Be Happy About

I recently bought a book of the net called "14 000 Things To Be Happy About". I haven't got it yet (the pitfalls of living in the middle of nowhere- aka Australia) but in anticipation of it's arrival I thought I would make a list of five things that make me happy right now.

1. My wardrobe: Yes, I'm aware how shallow and teenage that makes me sound. However, what you have to realise is, I bought every single item of clothing in that wardrobe. Every dress, every skirt, every top and every pair of overpriced yet still so beautiful pair of shoes was paid for with money that I earned on my own. And you know what? I'm so proud of myself for that. It's liberating to know that I can hold my own and I could take care of myself, even if just financially, if I had to.

2. Kindness: I work a lot on my own, in a work field that some may describe as high risk in terms of break-ins and hold-ups. Therefore, I'm really glad that I have so many cool people in my life that don't mind checking in on me. Sure, the security guards have to check on me- it's kinda their job, you know?- but they don't have to stick around for half an hour keeping me entertained and telling me funny stories. And the guy who runs the restaurant across the road would be perfectly within his rights to ignore me and keep on working, but he's sweet enough to keep an eye out for me. I know some really decent people, and I'm happy that amongst all these stories of the world becoming a colder place, I've managed to find some warm and generous people.

3. My upcoming trip to Peru: I've been doing my research into Peru, and besides the whole "eating guinea pigs" thing, everything I read just makes me more excited! This morning I read about Cuzco. The heart of Cuzco is the Huacaypata and Cusipata, which translates to the "place of tears" and the "place of happiness". Gorgeous.

4. Double dipped Cherry Ripes: They complete me. Enough said.

5. Janet Evanovich books: Sure, they're a little cliche-d, but hey? Who doesn't need a little cliche and mush every now and then?

Until next time, I encourage everyone to find things that make them happy. Even if it's little things like your morning coffee or the way your shoes click-clack on the tiles, embrace it, love it, be happy about it!
